Enjoy
the splendors of the scenic Columbia Gorge while
climbing to the foothills of Mount Hood. On the
historic excursion train, the fun begins the moment
you step aboard their century-old railroad. Dating
from the early 1900s, the train has enclosed Pullman
coaches, a concession car offers light food and
beverage and there is both a red caboose and an
open air car.
Plummeting
620 feet from its origins on Larch Mountain, Multnomah
Falls is the second highest year-round waterfall
in the United States. Nearly two million visitors
a year come to see this ancient waterfall. From
the information center, visitors can hike the
1.2 mile trail that climbs approximately 600 feet
to the top of Multnomah Falls. This trails provides
great views of the falls and the Columbia River
Gorge.
Standing
in the Cascade Mountains of southern Washington,
looking over the beautiful Columbia River Gorge,
is a 12,276 foot mountain called Pahto, "standing
high", as it was named by native Americans a multitude
of generations ago. Travelers from around the
world come to experience these rivers and enjoy
the natural beauty found much as they were 200
years ago when our friends Lewis and Clark voyaged
to the Pacific Ocean.
The
Columbia Gorge Discovery Center is the official
interpretive center for the Columbia River Gorge
National Scenic Area. The Center has approximately
8,500 historical objects in its collections. Native
American baskets from throughout the region, household
furnishings, and farm tools are strongly represented.
The museum also houses a 17,200 square foot exhibit
wing which tells the stories of the people of
Wasco County past and present.

The
Hood River County Historical Museum is dedicated

that reflect and portray the “story” of Hood River
County and the Mid-Columbia area. Through exhibits,
special events and educational programs the museum
is a vital and active part of the community.

shop and views of Mount Hood.
