Oregon
Shopping The Oregon lifestyle is town and country, home and garden,
the great outdoors enjoyed and brought home. Art, culture and music
celebrated and expressed in Oregon homes.
Small
town shopping is a social event, a time to interact with people
and build relationships that last a lifetime. From the historic
downtowns of Ashland and Jacksonville in Southern Oregon, to Sisters,
Redmond and Sunriver in Central Oregon, to Hood River along the
Gorge, Antique Stores filled with treasures, boutiques, gifts stores
brimming with decorative arts, art glass, candles jewelry and art
galleries abound and are the center of Oregon Life.
From the hometown unique in small town Oregon to the uptown chic
of Portland's international boutiques, Oregon offers a smorgasbord
of shopping opportunities. Portland's Pearl District is a popular
destination for strolling through art galleries and enjoying popular
eateries. Tiffany's and Saks 5th Ave are located on N.W. 23rd in
a district of exclusive shops. Niketown on SW 6th is yet another
favorite shopping destination. Just outside of downtown, is Sellwood,
an historic district of antique stores that is an antique lovers
paradise!
From
classic indoor malls, to strolling ocean front outdoor malls along
the Coast, and Outlet Stores in most Oregon regions, there is no
shortage of high fashion, or home fashion for Oregon Shoppers and
with no sales tax, those visiting should take advantage of shopping
in Oregon.
The
Rogue Valley Mall in Southern Oregon offers anchor stores such as
Fred Meyer, JC Penny and Mervyn's and many favorite national chains
such as Baby Gap, Gap Kids, Bath and Body Works, Victoria Secret,
Motherhood and dozens of others.
In
the coastal region, the largest indoor shopping mall is The Pony
Village Shopping Mall. Coos Bay's restored downtown is filled with
Myrtlewood Shops, galleries and boutiques. North of Coos Bay, The
Seaside Factory Outlet features Adidas, Big Dog Sportswear, Black
and Decker, Coldwater Creek, Harry and David, Jones New York, Liz
Claiborne, Nine West, Linen Barn and Oneida.
Perhaps
some of Oregon finest shopping can be found at the Orchards, Wineries
and Farms throughout Oregon where Oregon's exports can be sampled
and acquired to enjoy at home. Harry and David, known world wide
for luscious fruit, chocolates, gift baskets, sauces and preserves
is located in Medford and open to the public. Oregon is known for
it's wine country. Southern Oregon, The Willamette Valley and The
Columbia River Valley's Wine Countries, are dotted with tasting
rooms, many with award winning wines to take home and enjoy. The
Tillamook Cheese Factory also offers tours and boasts ice cream
dipping counters, a fudge counter, café and gift store. The Hood
River Valley's pear and cherry orchards are not only a beautiful
sloping scene at the foot of Mt. Hood but also make for great fruit
stand shopping, (My favorite, Draper's Farm). Along the Coast, it's
the cranberries of Bandon and their wonderful cheese that are savored
and find their way into Oregon homes.
Whether
you live to shop in Oregon or shop in Oregon to live, life is better
when you have sipped an Oregon wine, tasted Oregon cheese, nibbled
on Oregon cherries while driving through the countryside in a car
that you purchased on an Oregon car lot where you didn't pay sales
tax so you could buy another treasured antique in a historic Oregon
downtown shopping district.
